Randall Schmit is an American artist of Dutch descent, best-known for his use of expressive gesture, abstract form, and comic imagery within allegorical paintings. His work is at once surreal graphic novel and biomorphic expressionist painting, where secular and mythical images join inside ambiguous spaces.
Randall Schmit's paintings are included in the permanent collection of many American museums. A travel fellowship from the American Friends of the Ludwig Foundation of Cuba funded the artist's study-visit to the island, which greatly inspired his work direction and influenced the comic, ironic surrealist paintings that followed. The landscapes are tabula rasa awaiting a new paradigm.
